The CPI has declined for nine consecutive months. The core CPI in March increased 5.6% YoY, in line with market expectations. The housing cost was the largest contributor to the MoM increase to the CPI in March and it had offset the decline in the energy cost. The energy cost fell 3.5% MoM in March as all major energy components fell. At the same time, the household food index decreased by 0.3% MoM. Although the overall CPI in the U.S. was lower than expected in March, core inflation fell slowly, and inflationary pressure remains high.

Although the labor market has shown signs of cooling, it is still resilient. The market believes that the Fed will continue to raise interest rates by 25 bps in May and end this round of interest rate hikes. It is expected that U.S. bond rates and the U.S. dollar may turn weak, and there is still upside for gold. In addition, the market expects the risk of a U.S. recession to continue to increase, we expect US stock market to consolidate in the short term. The S&P 500 index is expected to trade between 3,800 points and 4,300 points.
