The Delta Asia volunteering team was led by Miss Lai-chong Au, CEO of Delta Asia Financial Group, on 19 August to visit the Evergreen Nursing Home in Cheung Sha Wan, to take part in the Sensory Restaurant on Wheels” community program organized by the Project Futurus. The team transformed into waitresses, chef, captain and hostess to recreate a nostalgic and joyful Chinese dim sum experience for the elderlies.
“Hello, what kind of tea would you like today?” Scenes of Chinese restaurant were recreated at the elderly home. Lively decorations, dim sum carts, dim sum in soft meal version, record cards were presented to restore the classic tea drinking scene, filling the afternoon with a joyful atmosphere. Volunteers played their roles while the elderlies actively participated, signaling waitresses to refill tea and order food, recreating the good old days of yum cha experience. Some elderlies even asked for the next day’s opening time of the restaurant!
The “Sensory Restaurant on Wheels” program provides elders living with dementia and swallowing difficulties with cognitive stimulation of the five senses by restoring the joy and dignity of dining through the special dim sum experience as well as active interactions with the volunteers!
We are very pleased that the elderlies have enjoyed the event so much. It was such a meaningful event and we look forward to organizing various CSR activities in the future.
